Thought by many to be the quintessential introduction to the Old Ways, Starhawk's first, and possibly most influential, work is an informative and readable introduction to the Craft and the Faery tradition. Designed as a work book for the beginning witch, this 10th anniversary edition (originally published by Harper & Row in 1979) contains additional material and retrospection. A must-have from Starhawk's own Book of Shadows, no witch's library should be without it.
________. Truth or Dare. San Francisco: Harper & Row, 1987. Starhawk continues her thesis on the Craft as a liberating force for spiritual and political change. Again, some may not agree with her politics.

Stubbs, Kenneth Ray (ed.). Women of the Light: The New Sacred Prostitute. Larkspur, California: Secret Garden, 1994. A superb selection of writings by female sex workers of various kinds (call girl, sexual surrogate, masseuse, etc.) with an appreciation for the Goddess and her role in sacred sex work.
Valiente, Doreen. An ABC of Witchcraft. Custer, Washington: Phoenix Publishing, 1973. Doreen's detailed dictionary to modern and ancient witchcraft is an essential reference work for any witch in any tradition.
